Low Cost Multimodal Facial Recognition via Kinect Sensors

چکیده
Biometrics is a key technology that can help identify friend from foe and deny the enemy anonymity he needs to hide and strike at will. Biometrics is defined as a measurable biological (anatomical and physiological) and behaviour characteristics that can be used for automated recognition [1]. The military needs reliable methodologies to enable it to identify people who are or might be national security threats in order to 1) keep personnel safer; 2) gain information to use, detect, detain, disrupt and deter terrorists; 3) record legally admissible evidence to use to prosecute terrorists; and finally 4) identifying friend from foe.

Kinect vs. Low-cost Inertial Sensing for Gesture Recognition
In this paper, we investigate efficient recognition of human gestures / movements from multimedia and multimodal data, including the Microsoft Kinect and translational and rotational acceleration and velocity from wearable inertial sensors. We firstly present a system that automatically classifies a large range of activities (17 different gestures) using a random forest decision tree. Our syste...
متن کاملModeling 3D faces from samplings via compressive sensing
3D data is easier to acquire for family entertainment purpose today because of the mass-production, cheapness and portability of domestic RGBD sensors, e.g., Microsoft Kinect. However, the accuracy of facial modeling is affected by the roughness and instability of the raw input data from such sensors. To overcome this problem, we introduce compressive sensing (CS) method to build a novel 3D sup...
متن کاملHow Much Information Kinect Facial Depth Data Can Reveal About Identity, Gender and Ethnicity?
Human face images acquired using conventional 2D cameras may have inherent restrictions that hinder the inference of some specific information in the face. The low-cost depth sensors such as Microsoft Kinect introduced in late 2010 allow extracting directly 3D information, together with RGB color images. This provides new opportunities for computer vision and face analysis research. Although mo...
متن کاملMultimodal Affect Recognition using Kinect
Affect (emotion) recognition has gained significant attention from researchers in the past decade. Emotionaware computer systems and devices have many applications ranging from interactive robots, intelligent online tutor to emotion based navigation assistant. In this research data from multiple modalities such as face, head, hand, body and speech was utilized for affect recognition. The resear...
متن کاملAn RGB-D based image set classification for robust face recognition from Kinect data
The paper proposes a method for robust face recognition from low quality Kinect acquired images which have a wide range of variations in head pose, illumination, facial expressions, sunglass disguise and occlusions by hand. Multiple Kinect images of a person are considered as an image set and face recognition from these images is formulated as an RGB-D image set classification problem. The Kine...
